Physiatrists are trained in the management of rehabilitation services.
The rehabilitation specialist’s expertise lies in their ability to provide a comprehensive integrative approach to get the patient to their highest level of functioning. At PMR we offer multidisciplinary interventions that are uniquely selected for you by your physiatrist. This method creates an individualized partnership between you, the PMR-PT and/or PMR-OT therapist(s) and the physiatrist.
Onsite Rehabilitative Services at PMR include the following:
- PMR – Physical Therapy: Strength training, flexibility training, postural maintenance, transfer of skill sets to home exercise program, education on proper biomechanics, manual techniques and modalities .
- PMR – Occupational Therapy: Focus on upper limb tasks for carryover into accomplishing activities of daily living, hand and nerve therapies, ergonomic evaluations (on-site and off-site), desensitization, scar mobilization, and assessment for cognitive impairment -Our occupational therapist(s) perform Functional Capacity Evaluations for issues regarding safe work capacity.
- Durable Medical Equipment(DME): We Assess of your individual durable medical equipment needs, personalized fitting, and instruction on appropriate use.
- Psychotherapy: Like the professional athlete who chooses to work with a sport psychologist to maximize their performance, PMR offers behavioral health care to augment one’s ability to cope with impairment and give you skills to fulfill your goals.
Recovery during Rehabilitation
Your involvement and motivation to succeed is the key to your success in the program. The rehabilitation team will utilize outcome metrics to guide your recovery. The physiatrist will lead your care team and communicate with you and your referring provider the coordinated plan. It is important to understand that when you reach your stable and stationary level of function, anticipate that you will be transitioned to an independent routine where you will feel safe and confident with your vocational and avocational activities.
